Food Network Chef Arrested. LOS ANGELES Former Food Network chef Juan-Carlos Cruz was sentenced Monday to nine years in prison for soliciting two homeless men to kill his wife.
Looking much grayer than he did during his arrest in May, Cruz returned to take a look over his wife Jennifer Campbell as he was led from the brief hearing. She was sitting in the front row of the courtroom with his lawyer.
Defense attorney Shawn Chapman Holley, said Cruz is expected to serve half the term of nine years, for serious and violent crime not committed.
Cruz was arrested in May by police in Santa Monica after a homeless man reported being offered $ 500 to kill his wife, Jennifer L. Campbell, an attorney with 47 years of age.
Prosecutors have not released the motive in the case, and Campbell and Holley declined to comment Monday.
Police said they set up a sting operation and organize video Cross the murder of several homeless men.
Cross organized the "Command-calorie" on the Food Network that ended four years ago, and published "The cookbook countdown calories."
