Swiss Chard Recipes Food Network. Of all the vegetables that can be found in the produce section of your supermarket, is not as nutritious for you, like kale. In fact, is full of good things, large amounts of vitamin A and vitamin C to lots and lots of phytonutrients. Even the ancient Greeks and Romans praised chard for its health-giving properties.

Taste-wise, you will find that chard is located between the slightly salty taste of spinach and the somewhat bitter taste of beet greens. Both the leaves and stems of chard can be eaten.

Chard is available year round in most places, although most accounts is at its highest point of taste in the summer months. I personally have bought and enjoyed it even in the depths of January and February.

If you can get hold of young chard, which is the most sensitive, can be eaten raw in salads or as a tasty alternative to lettuce on sandwiches.

How to cook the beets, do not hesitate to use it instead of spinach in any recipe. You'll have to cook a little longer than it would spinach, and maybe a little more good if it is older thistle.
